A veneer is a thin ceramic shell bonded to the front of the tooth, so only a minimal amount of enamel is touched. A crown covers the whole tooth and requires far more reduction of the natural structure. We recommend veneers whenever possible because they are conservative, and we reserve crowns for teeth that are heavily damaged or root-treated.

Properly made veneers do not damage healthy teeth, because the approach is mini-invasive and preserves your enamel. We never grind a sound tooth down to a small peg, which is the harmful practice behind so-called “turkey teeth”.
