Hollywood Smile

Should I choose ceramic veneers or composite veneers? What is the difference?

Both ceramic and composite veneers change the shape, colour, and appearance of your teeth, but they are quite different in how they are made, how they look, and how long they last. Understanding the distinction helps you make a decision that fits your goals and situation.

Ceramic veneers are fabricated in a dental laboratory from a block of high-strength feldspathic or lithium disilicate ceramic. The material is layered and fired to replicate the natural translucency of tooth enamel, which is what gives a high-quality ceramic smile its lifelike quality. Once bonded, ceramic is highly resistant to staining, wear, and discolouration. At our clinic, we use German and Japanese ceramics for their superior optical properties and long-term performance.

Composite veneers are applied chair-side by building up layers of tooth-coloured resin directly on the tooth surface. They require little or no preparation and can be completed in a single appointment. The upfront cost is lower, and they are reversible in many cases. However, composite is softer than ceramic and more prone to staining from food, coffee, or tobacco. It also tends to lose its polish over time and typically needs replacement or refurbishment after five to seven years.

For patients who want a genuine Hollywood Smile that stays bright and natural-looking for a decade or more, ceramic is the appropriate choice. Composite can be a reasonable option for younger patients who want a temporary improvement, or for minor corrections. During your consultation we will evaluate your teeth and discuss which option realistically achieves what you are looking for.
