Should you whiten your teeth before veneers or crowns?
Whitening acts only on natural enamel: it has no effect on the ceramic of veneers and crowns, nor on old composites or resins. Once these restorations are in place, their shade is permanent and cannot be lightened by whitening.
That is why the order of treatment matters. When planning a brighter smile combining natural teeth and restorations, the natural teeth are whitened first to set the target shade, and the veneers or crowns are then designed to that new colour. Placing the restorations first and whitening afterwards would create a visible shade gap between the lightened natural teeth and the restorations that stayed darker.
At Dr. Imad Al Morabit's practice in Nador, which has an integrated digital laboratory, the shade of the Hollywood Smile in layered ceramic crowns and veneers is chosen with you after this step. The treatment plan is set at the examination; the consultation and quote are free.
