Aligners

Are clear aligners visible? Can I wear them at work?

One of the main reasons adults choose clear aligners over traditional braces is discretion. The trays are made from a transparent, medical-grade plastic material that fits closely over the teeth. In normal social and professional interactions, they are extremely difficult to spot.

In workplace settings, including presentations, meetings, and client-facing roles, aligners are genuinely inconspicuous. They do not have the visual impact of metal brackets and wires, and they do not change the shape of your face or the way you hold your mouth. Most people who switch to aligners from a concern about appearance are pleasantly surprised by how unnoticeable they are.

There are a couple of situations where the trays are slightly more visible. In very close, well-lit conditions, someone paying close attention might notice a slight sheen on the teeth. Some trays have small tooth-coloured attachment buttons bonded to the teeth to help with specific movements; these are small and discreet but can occasionally be noticed up close.

Speech is occasionally affected very slightly in the first few days of wearing a new set of trays, particularly with certain sounds. This typically resolves quickly as your tongue adapts to the shape of the tray. For important presentations or events, you always have the option to remove the trays briefly, though this should be the exception rather than the rule to keep treatment on track.
