Is getting a dental implant painful?
During the implant placement procedure, the area is numbed with local anaesthesia. Most patients report feeling pressure rather than pain, similar to a tooth extraction. The surgery itself is precise and controlled, and at no point should you experience sharp or acute pain while you are in the chair.
In the days following the procedure, it is normal to experience some soreness, swelling, and mild bruising around the treated area. This typically peaks around 48 to 72 hours after surgery and then subsides. Over-the-counter pain relief, cold compresses, and soft foods are usually sufficient to keep you comfortable during this period.
The level of post-operative discomfort varies between patients. Factors such as the number of implants placed, whether a bone graft was needed, and individual pain tolerance all play a role. We provide clear written aftercare instructions and remain reachable by WhatsApp if you have questions in the days following your procedure.
Many patients are surprised to find that the recovery is more straightforward than they anticipated. The vast majority return to normal daily activities within two to three days. If discomfort feels excessive or prolonged, we take that seriously and assess it promptly.
